Women… What Does The WORD say vs. What The World Says?

The world tells us, “If you got it… FLAUNT IT!”  the WORD of God says that a woman should be modest in dress (1 Timothy 2:9)

The world tells us to wait at least five dates or 90 days before making love to a man the WORD of God says to wait until he is our HUSBAND (1 Corinthians 6:18-20; 2 Corinthians 7:1-2)

The world says don’t be too nice. Instead of walking around with a smile on your face, walk around with a frown because it’s “sexy”….. and you don’t want to be too nice because “kindness is a sign of weakness”  the WORD of God commands us to be kind one to another; for kindness is a fruit of the Spirit;  (Ephesians 4:32; Galatians 5:22)

The world says hate your enemies ~ the WORD of God says we are to love them and pray for them (Matthew 5:44)

The world tells you that you need to be a certain size, shape, and complexion; and your hair has to be a certain length to be beautiful  the WORD of God says EVERYTHING He made beautiful! (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

The world inspire us to be “bad bitches”… and “boss bitches” ~ the Word of God calls us to be VIRTUOUS WOMEN

The world makes us think that it is cute to be loud; and to swear & cuss   the WORD of God says that as  virtuous women we only open our mouths to speak wisdom with kindness on our tongues. (Proverbs 31:26)

The world tells us when someone does us wrong, we need to hold it against them… hold a grudge….. and throw it in their face every single chance we get ~ the WORD of God says that we are to forgive others just as Christ forgives us (Ephesians 4:32)

The world tells you that money is the answer to all your problems the WORD of God says that the love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10)

The world makes us believe that it is okay to sleep around… Jumping from bed to bed, sharing our bodies ~ But the Word of God says do you not know that your body is a temple in which the Holy Spirit dwells? With every other sin it is outside of the  body but when we fornicate we sin against our own body  (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

The world has us seeking popularity… trying to be liked, loved, and admired by all  but the WORD of God says to be a friend of the world is to be an enemy of God (James 4:4)

The world says it’s okay to allow a man to lay up in your home all day while you go to work. Then gotta come home and cook him dinnerthe Word says that a man who does not WORK does not EAT (Thessalonians 3:10)

The world says that the teachings of the Bible does not apply today because we are in the 21st Century ~ 1 Peter 1:25 says that the Word of God endures forever (1 Peter 1:25)

The world tells us to get revenge on all those who have hurt you… “Lets do to them what they did to US! Let us hurt them because they hurt us”   But the WORD of God says that vengeance is the Lord’s (Romans 12:19)

The world can keep you down…. Make you feel like you are nobody… You cannot be anybody… And you cannot accomplish anything. And then you don’t because you think you can’t ~ but the WORD of God says that I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me  (Philippians 4:3)

The world can lead you to believe that satan actually cares for you…. because when you play his game you sometimes get what you want. And it feels good for a moment  the WORD of God says that satan comes ONLY to steal, kill, and to destroy (John 10:10)

The world can break you if you let it…. depress you, stress you….. Make you feel like your troubles are taking you out  the WORD of God says that we should count it all joy when we go through; for it is our trials that teach us endurance   (James 1:2-4)

The world teaches us to aspire for big houses, expensive cars, worldly and materialistics things  the WORD of God says we are to seek God and His righteousness above ALL ELSE and everything will be added to us (Matthew 6:33)

The world tells us, “Girl, get you a man with a big house and some money” so that he can take care of you  the WORD of God says that we should have our own (Proverbs 14:1)

The world tells us the more make up and jewelry we wear, the more beautiful our appearance  the WORD of God says that we are not to be so concerned with outward beauty such as hairstyles, expensive jewelry or beautiful clothes…. but to focus on the beauty which never fades and this is the beauty that comes from within.  (1 Peter 3:3)

The world makes us think love is supposed to hurt.  “He hurt me because he loves me”∼  the WORD of God says that love is kind. Love is not easily provoked nor is it evil. The word of God says that love is patient.  Love does not boast or brag. Love bears & endures all things; Love does not fail (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

The world lets us think we can hate each other… fight each other…. talk down on each other…. yet claim that we love God  The WORD of God says how we can love Him that we cannot see but can’t even love those that we can see?? (1 John 4:20)

The world will tell you that you can never change… The world reminds you of your past to discourage you. To make you believe that you still are what you were & can never be anything more  the WORD of God says that in Christ you are made NEW…..  you are a new creation & old things have passed. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

It’s funny how we sometimes look at other women and envy their bodies, not realizing that same woman is looking at the next woman and envying hers. I was having this conversation with a friend who, like me, has some things she would change about her body if she could. While we both have issues with our bodies, our issues are not the same. Up until recently, I had tried to gain and keep a few extra pounds while she is trying to lose a few pounds. We talk often and are very open with one another about our insecurities as far as our bodies are concerned. Our conversations sometimes go like this (no kidding), “You are so lucky you are small; you would look great in that dress.” “But at least you have big enough breasts to fill out THIS top I wish I could wear”.
Looking at us, most people would probably say our bodies are fine. I’m a size 6 and I’m not sure of her size but she is a well proportioned “thick” woman. In my opinion, she has a wonderful shape; but no matter how much I tell her that, she has to know and feel it for herself. The truth is, a lot of women struggle with this same issue. I’m sure any woman reading this can think of at least one thing about her body that she wishes she could change with a snap of her fingers. Newsflash: That one thing you would pay to change, another woman is dying to have.

This was something I realized after talking to one of my patients. As I was checking her weight, she was complaining about how she hated her body and wanted to lose weight. I could not believe what she was saying because this woman was the definition of what they call a “Brick House”. She had full breasts, a tiny waist, round hips, and a very nice behind. I was literally standing there with my mouth open looking at her hourglass figure. I said, “Girl what are you talking about?? Do you know how many women would love to have your body? People actually pay money to have your shape.” She said she HATED her body and wished her hips and behind were smaller. She went on to say that she had a hard time shopping for clothes, and she couldn’t wear belts because her waist was too small. She also said that she had a hard time with men because she never knew if they were genuinely interested in her or only wanted her for her body. When she gave me all these reasons why she didn’t like her body, all I could say was WOW. I had no idea that women with “perfect” bodies had issues too. After listening to her and talking to others, I found that there are more women who are unhappy with their bodies than there are women who are satisfied. Don’t believe me? Turn on your television. It’s proven in the media, women proudly flaunting their fake breasts and fake behinds. But the thing is, these women have not learned to accept themselves for who they are and how God made them. Meanwhile, these are the same women who most of us are sitting at home wishing we looked like.

I remember seeing certain women and thinking, “Wow I wish I had a body like that!” But I have realized that the best way for me to be unhappy is to compare myself to other people. When you compare yourself to others, you tend to worry about what you don’t have rather than what you do have. Ladies, we have to remember that we were made perfectly in God’s image. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, whether we are size 8 or size 18. God made us who we are. Stop looking at other women and comparing your breasts to hers; and stop comparing your stomach and behind to hers. Stop worrying about the fact that her waste is smaller than yours. Especially if you have had children. Giving birth is a blessing; so thank God for the experience and let the marks be a reminder of that beautiful miracle.

If a healthier body is what you want, then take the necessary steps to make that happen. Maybe diabetes or hypertension run in your family and you want to lower your risk by losing weight; that is a great reason to want to lose weight. But please don’t let your motivation be the girl you see on TV or the woman you saw at the mall that had the “perfect body”. Do not believe society’s definition of a perfect body. A perfect body in my opinion is the body God made just for YOU.
